Social media has become a powerful tool that is helping millions of people and changing lives positively. The story of Rafia is a testimony to this.
Rafia, a young girl from the Northern part of Ghana had a dream to become a nurse in the future. However, things did not go as she wished. Financial constraints forced her to put her dream on hold and move from the Northern part of Ghana to Accra in search of greener pastures in hopes of saving money and going back to school someday. She resorted to working as a head porter, which is popularly known as “kayayo”
After working for many months without any hope of ever going back to school, the unexpected happened. Nana Tea, a famous philanthropist on Facebook chanced on Rafia one fateful day in Accra going about her regular “kayayo” job and that changed Rafia’s story entirely.
Nana Tea engaged Rafia in a conversation and realized she had completed Senior High School and wished to pursue nursing but could not due to lack of financial support.
Touched by her plight, Nana Tea shared his encounter with her on his Facebook timeline. It drew the attention of many people including the Regional Minister for Savannah region. The Minister assisted in securing her admission to a nursing school and paid her fees in full. She has currently started school and hopes to complete and become a certified nurse.
Nana Tea shared the exciting news on Facebook;
“From being a Kayayo(head Potter) on the street of Accra to becoming a nursing trainee
All because you guys shared her post and we got great results. Got admission through the regional minister of the Savanna region, and fees were fully paid from someone here also.
What God cannot do does not exist.”
