In an unexpected turn of events, the Guinness World Records has rendered its verdict on Afua Asantewaa’s attempt for the longest singing marathon by an individual. Afua Asantewaa completed her singing marathon, spanning 126 hours and 52 minutes, on December 29, 2023, with the aim of surpassing the current record set by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012. Subsequently, Afua submitted evidence of her singing attempt to Guinness World Records on January 6, 2024.
In a bid to get her evidence reviewed earlier than the usual 12-week stipulated duration, Afua had to pay an amount of $650. However, the GWR has stated the money has been refunded to her since the evidence was already in review before payment was made.
The singing marathon took place at Akwaaba Village, where numerous Ghanaians, including celebrated musicians, gathered to support and cheer on Afua.
In a tweet, they wrote;
“Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans. The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so we refunded her payment earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts.”
