Frank Darko, a young Ghanaian man has designed and built a motorbike that rides on water. He calls it a water bike.In an interview with Kofi TV on River Densu during the first test ride of the bike, Frank highlighted the functions of the water bike and the challenges he faced while putting it together. The bike can carry four passengers at a go aside from the rider.
According to him, it can be used by fishermen for fishing and can be used as a means of transportation by students and the general public to cross the River Densu to other neighbouring towns.
Interestingly, this is not the first invention of Frank’s, in the past, he manufactured water bicycles and street sweepers among others. He hopes to get support from stakeholders to expand his productions in the future.
Over the years, many artisans have attempted to design and create many artifacts ranging from vehicles, aircraft, and others but have been faced with a lot of challenges which mostly have left their talents and creativities unexplored.
Capital is the number one challenge faced by these people. They do not get adequate funding needed to push the production of these things on larger scales, this contributes to these projects not being abandoned in the majority of these cases. If this phase is not completed, then obviously there won’t be room to even talk about marketing.
Nevertheless, in the case of individuals who have risen above the challenge of cost of production like the famous Kwadwo Kantanka, marketing becomes a huge challenge. Considering the cost of production of these vehicles, selling prices become ridiculously high. This leads to the unavailability of the market for these products.
As technology advances and more creative and talented individuals keep emerging, should funding continue to hinder the progress of what could be? Governmental agencies and other abled stakeholders should consider investing in this sector, this could help cushion and build a stronger economy.
