Alatevi John, a 25-year-old contestant on TV3’s Mentor XII who goes by the stage name Byno Ayoni, has bravely shared a touching story of how his father abandoned him when he was born due to his albinism, a genetic condition.
Singing Lucky Dube’s “Remember Me,” Byno emotionally recounts the moment, revealing that his father ran away upon realizing he was an albino, leaving him and his mother alone. Despite never meeting his father, Byno’s mother passed away, and he was left in the care of his grandmother, who single-handedly raised him.
Despite unsuccessful attempts to locate his father, Byno expresses forgiveness and love towards him. Notably, Byno has achieved the Star Performer title multiple times and is anticipated to contend for the ultimate prize.
Byno comes from Aflao in the Volta region of Ghana. According to him, music has helped him go through tough situations in life. “Music has been my therapy. Growing up under really tough conditions and facing a lot of adversities, I found a friend and solace in music. It’s one major reason why I found it easy to choose music as a career to follow. Giving other people the therapy I found when I was younger. It is still my therapy”
