Shatta Wale, a controversial dancehall musician, has publicly asserted that no Ghanaian artist is on the same level as Asaake, a Nigerian singer and entertainer belonging to YBNL Nation.
His remarks during a Twitter Space on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, generated a whirlwind of discussions and arguments inside the business and among fans.
“No Ghanaian artiste has even made it like Asaake. Don’t even bring up the Asaake point. Not even me [Shatta Wale], nobody, so don’t even bring that. Don’t bring the Asaake name,” he said
Asake, a budding music artist, has captured the attention and admiration of many with his distinct sound and compelling performances.
His latest show at the O2 Arena on Sunday, August 20, 2023, has been regarded as ‘historic’ by music critics. This is also owing to Asake’s music’s swift rise and influence, which has connected with a large audience.
But it’s not just Shatta Wale’s assessment of Asake’s size that has sparked debate.
The ‘Shatta Movement’ singer also discussed his personal musical ambitions and goals.
He openly questioned why he should put his life on the line to fill stadiums like the O2 Arena, citing his prior challenges and personal objectives.
According to the award-winning dancehall artist, he is more concerned with financial success and collecting enormous riches than with filling venues.
“You people call me a drug addict, why should I risk my life to fill a place for Ghanaians or the music industry? I am okay, I wanted to buy house, lands and investments, I am okay, so filling the O2 is not my priority, my priority is to keep a billion dollars in my account, that is where I am at right now. Nobody should disturb me about filling the 02 or my music,” he opined.
He also asserted that he is content with his current accomplishments, including his performance at the Accra Sports Stadium because he did not get support from within the Ghanaian music industry to push his agenda.
“After I filled the Accra Sports stadium, Ghanaians should have given me a helping hand to fill the 02 because I am not from London to be able to fill up the 02,” he tendered.
He finally added, “Asake alone could not fill the 02, industry players contributed so if the Ghanaian industry is trying to burst someone who single-handedly filled the sports stadium without any promos, what more can I do.”
