Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced the completion of a 300-unit housing project ready to accommodate displaced residents of the North Tongu constituency.
Recall that thousands of residents were affected when the Akosombo Dam spilled, rendering many homeless. Currently, these individuals are forced to shelter in classrooms and other places, significantly impacting daily life. This situation has also disrupted education, as classrooms have been converted into makeshift camps.
Fortunately, the new houses aim to restore order to the community, allowing economic activities to resume. Hon. Ablakwa shared this development on Facebook, expressing hope for positive change. He wrote;
“We are almost there!
Our first Safe Alternative Housing Project will be ready for commissioning in a few days.
Some 300 VRA-induced flood victims putting up in congested classrooms can now have their dignity restored as they prepare to move into decent modern accommodation.
We are eternally grateful to Construction Ambassadors — a subsidiary of the First Sky Group, our chiefs for donating free land, and members of my Alternative Housing Committee for making this possible.
We shall start work on our second alternative housing project very shortly.
Remember that no one will be asked to pay rent for these houses.
I shall never ever abandon my distressed people.
In this together, rising together.”
