The journey to rehabilitation in Ghana appears to be an expensive one. Rehabilitation programs are designed to help individuals overcome drug addiction and rebuild their lives. Seeking professional help is crucial to achieving this goal because attaining and maintaining sobriety can be demanding.
But how affordable are these rehabilitation services to an average Ghanaian? Well, it has been established that an average Ghanaian is not likely to afford the services of rehabilitation centers in the country. Currently, these services range from Ghc4,000 per month to over Ghc6,000 per month.
Overcoming addiction is a challenging feat but is possible if support is available to victims. Most victims and families of victims cannot afford these “treatments” therefore making victims drown deeper into their addictions.
Rehabilitation gives drug addicts a second chance at life, so the inability to undergo it due to financial difficulties is a big problem that authorities should consider. What if the government implements a policy to make rehabilitation free and accessible to those who need it?
Sadly, most drug addicts are the youth, which means the country is at risk of losing its workforce in the future if this issue is not addressed with urgency. If rehabilitation can not be free, at least, the government can give subsidies to centers so the cost of acquiring these services can become affordable.
