In an unfortunate turn of events, spillage from the Akosombo Dam has caused uncontrollable floods in parts of lower Volta. It has affected hundreds of households and businesses, leaving most people homeless and devastated. Most houses and resorts along the Volta River are almost submerged in the flood as the floods keep increasing.
The devastating situation has caused all social and economic activities to halt as lives and properties are in danger. Victims and concerned citizens have raised concerns about the need to quickly evacuate affected persons to safety as the situation seems to be getting worse by the day. Although the vulnerable are being rescued by the youths in most of the affected areas, more effort would have to be made to salvage the situation.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu has visited some affected victims in his constituency. He distributed life jackets to them and made transportation arrangements for those being evacuated. He also donated an amount of Ghc30,000 to help the victims.
